Interconnector Zeebrugge Terminal: natural gas to and from the UK

The Interconnector Zeebrugge Terminal (IZT) connects the Fluxys grid to the underwater Interconnector pipeline which runs to Bacton in the United Kingdom and is so far the only bi-directional link between the UK and continental European markets. IZT allows natural gas from the Continent to be shipped to the United Kingdom. Such gas may come from any source to which the Fluxys network is connected: Russia, Norway, the Netherlands, or LNG that has been regasified at the LNG terminal.
The Interconnector also serves as the only gas export route from the United Kingdom.

Zeepipe Terminal: Norwegian North Sea natural gas

Gassco’s Zeepipe Terminal (ZPT) connects Norway’s Troll and Sleipner offshore gas fields to the Fluxys grid via the underwater Zeepipe pipeline.

Zeebrugge LNG Terminal

The Zeebrugge LNG Terminal serves as a gateway to supply LNG into Europe. LNG carriers can berth at the terminal either to unload or to load. Unloaded LNG is held in cycling storage before it is regasified and sent out into the Fluxys grid or reloaded into LNG carriers.

Rubik’s cube of cross-border gas flows

In the space of 30 years the Zeebrugge area has developed into a veritable rubik’s cube of cross-border gas flows in North-Western Europe.

Any LNG or pipe gas brought into the Zeebrugge area can be traded at the Zeebrugge Hub or shipped through the Fluxys grid for delivery into the Belgian market or redelivery at one of the borders for onward transmission in any direction throughout Europe
